Unlike classical ligands, TB-500 does not act through a single dedicated cell-surface receptor; its activity centers on an actin-binding (G-actin sequestering) domain that interacts directly with the cytoskeletal protein pool. Its activity is also linked to engagement of surface receptors such as Ku80 and putative purinergic-adjacent targets that may influence cell migration. Because a definitive receptor map has not been established, these binding relationships are best described as still being characterized in the literature rather than settled.

Once intracellular, TB-500 is understood to influence actin polymerization, which can modulate cell motility, adhesion, and the assembly of repair-associated cytoskeletal structures. It is associated with upregulation of pathways tied to laminin, integrin signaling, and angiogenic mediators that coordinate cell migration toward areas of tissue stress. These downstream effects are understood to support cellular remodeling, not to guarantee regenerative outcomes.

TB-500 is not primarily characterized as a neuroactive compound, and limited direct neural activity is described. Cytoskeletal and migratory effects have been noted in neural-supportive cell types, but these observations are preliminary and tied to general cell-repair biology rather than direct CNS signaling. Any neural relevance should therefore be regarded as secondary and not well established.

Derived from a thymus-associated peptide, TB-500 is understood to have systemic effects on inflammatory modulation and the coordination of immune and vascular cells during tissue remodeling.
